Katrina Kelly a creative Hair Stylist documents Lucy and Toms Wedding Day at The Old Hall, Ely in March 2020.
I first met Lucy over a year ago when she became a client of mine in the salon. Over the year we got to know each other well and Lucy began to share all the details about her big day and of how she met Tom at work and of their exciting engagement at the Grand Canyon.
I was delighted when Lucy asked me to play a part in her special day by styling hers and her bridal party’s hair and especially when Lucy told me the venue that they had chosen.
Having worked with Lucy’s hair for a while I had a good understanding of how her hair would work and at the trial Lucy was very pleased with what I created for her and I couldn’t wait to work with her again on the wedding day.
It was a fresh March morning when we arrived at the Old Hall in Ely which is a gorgeous Jacobean Manor House that overlooks lakes with a stunning view of Ely Cathedral. I arrived and set up to start styling the bridesmaids hair in the marquee whilst Lucy, family and friends helped to set up the reception tables. It was very amusing to hear all the banter in the background between them all trying to work out how to tie the bows on the backs of the chairs and about where exactly Lucy wanted them to place all the items on the tables, whilst making jokes about Lucy’s OCD.
It was then time to all move upstairs into the beautiful and incredibly spacious bridal suite to continue Hair and Make-up. Working alongside the lovely Kerry from Cambridge Makeup Artist, we were then joined by some very cheeky but very cute flower girls who kept us entertained whilst preparations were happening. The event staff popped in and out throughout the morning to check everything was going according to time and letting us know the flowers and bouquets had arrived from Wild Frost, along with the photographers from Gary Rowsel Photography ready to capture the all-important getting ready shots with a few cheeky moments from the little ones.
The overall atmosphere was so calm and relaxed and we moved along ahead of schedule so this meant Lucy had some time to sit back and take it all in. Lucy was incredibly organised throughout the planning process of her wedding which really helped to create this calm and relaxed atmosphere on the morning.
Once Lucy’s Hair and Makeup was complete everyone started to get dressed into their outfits ready for the day and the little ones were so excited about this even the eldest flower girl who didn’t seem that keen on wearing hers before but looked very proud when everything came together.
Lucy looked stunning in her open backed gown with beaded detailed at the top and full skirt from Clifford Burr Bridal in Bishops Stortford. We added a few sparkles on hair vines to Lucy’s hair to match in with the details of the dress and a simple veil to finish which all worked perfectly together.
The bridesmaids and flower girls wore pretty lilac coloured dresses from JJs house with added hair accessories to give a little extra sparkle. The colours all matched wonderfully with the colour scheme in the reception and they all looked beautiful.
Once everyone was dressed and ready it was time for me to make sure Lucy’s veil was fitted in place and to make sure I showed the bridesmaids how to remove after the ceremony. One of the best parts of my job is seeing the bride with her completed look. Lucy was now ready so this was my time to pack away.
As I left I could see all the guests excitedly arriving for the ceremony which was taking place inside the house. I always like to take a sneaky peak around as I leave as it’s so lovely to see all the elements finally come together that the bride and groom have spent so long planning.
It looked wonderful and all the hard work they had put in had definitely paid off.
I was so excited when Lucy shared her wedding photos with me as its always lovely to see a complete picture of how the day went from when I left. One of the photos I was looking forward to seeing was of Lucy and Tom with their dog Ruby as we had chatted about how they were going to get the images without Ruby ruining her dress. They looked like they definitely managed to get some lovely shots.
Congratulations to the New Mr & Mrs Skidmore. Thank you for choosing me to share your special day with you I absolutely loved playing a part in it.
