Q&A with Bride-To-Be, Ellie

Today, we have the lovely, Bride-to-be and Mother, Ellie, joining us to discuss how she has found real enjoyment from an ‘all hands on deck’, DIY approach to wedding planning. She also reveals the most romantic wedding proposal and how she said ‘YES!’ from a mountain top!

  1. Where did you meet your partner?
We met at work- in very strange circumstances, detaining someone who then was later arrested by police!
  2. How long had you been together before you became engaged?
We were together about 4 years before we got engaged
  3. Can you remember an exact point when you looked at your partner and thought, “he’s the one!”
Ooh, that’s a tough one. I think I knew quite early on he was ‘the one’ just because he treated me like an absolute queen from the get go and was such a gentlemen all the time. But I think it was after we had a wonderful day at Hever Castle, and I just kinda knew then.
  4. Where and how did the proposal take place? Was it expected or a complete shock?
I knew it was going to happen at some point, we have always talked about wanting to get married and planning it around having children. I just didn’t know when! It was on a really long walk near where we live, and we made a point of wanting to complete all the walks on the trail list. He got down on one knee at the viewpoint and told me how much he loved me and was pointing out all the various places we’d done things that we could see from the viewpoint. It was perfect, just us and our little boy.
  5. What does marriage mean to you?
I think it just solidifies your love for each other, and celebrating your love with your family and friends. Its a special time for everyone involved.
  6. Did you both have the opportunity to meet each others families before the engagement?
Yes! Lucky Tom gets to spend a lot of time with my family (haha) but we all get on so well and they absolutely adore him. Tom’s family all live in Australia and we miss them so much. We have been over there together once, and they have come over to us once too.
  7. Have you always had a set idea of how you’d like your wedding day or are you open to ideas?
We have always been very open to ideas to be honest, we wanted to do it on a major budget as we didn’t see in the point in spending lots of money we don’t have on one day. Its been a bit of a DIY, make it yourself, all hands on deck kind of planning.
  8. Are you planning a small, intimate ceremony or a large wedding?
We are planning a small intimate ceremony with about 40-60 people. In a very sweet venue which is family run and just beautiful!
  9. Have you enjoyed wedding planning so far? What’s been the most enjoyable part? What’s been the most stressful part?
Yes! I have loved it all. It’s been incredible. We are both quite flexible and pretty chilled about most things. We have agreed on practically everything as well which has been great. I think for me, doing bits to my dress and wedding ring shopping. We just had a great day together. The most stressful part was having our wedding postponed due to Covid-19 and having to re-plan everything. Things are still all a bit up in the air, but crossing our fingers it all comes together.
  10. What are your future plans together?
We are going to go on a mini-moon after the wedding, just the three of us. Then we would like to go back to Australia too, so we can celebrate with family who couldn’t come to the wedding, and they can meet our little boy! Eventually we’d probably like to extend our family but who knows what the future holds!

Thank you for taking the time to speak with us today. We hope you get the opportunity to jet off to Australia and celebrate your wedding with family & friends from the ‘down under’.
